Strange Similiraties between Greek and Indian Gods (are Indian and Greek Gods same?)

the greek and Indian mythology are two of the oldest known mythology known to man here are some of the common things which you'll find I'm both the mythology Which connection with each other and share some striking similarities. Here are some interesting things that you will find common in both the mythologies

Zeus and Indra

Zeus [Greek god of thunder]

Zeus and Indra make another strikingly similar pair of God

while Zeus is the ruler of Olympian gods  India is the king of Indian Gods. Zeus is the God of the Sky and has control over the weather phenomenon related to the sky like air, storms Tempest, Darkness thunder lightning, and rain. Indra is the god of rain, regent of the heaven, guardian of the east, ruler of clouds and skies

Indra [ Hindu God]

. Another conspicuous similarity is their weapons. Zeus has a thunderbolt as his weapon while Indra has Vajra as his weapon which has the same power as a thunderbolt. Zeus is known for siring a lot of Heroes from different mortal women and also with different goddesses. And for that reason, his wife 'Hera' is jealous of him,

similarly, Indra is also known for his virility has been unfaithful to his wife 'Indrani' on different occasions. And they both have their dwelling about mountains, Mount Olympus for the Zeus and Swarg above Mount Meru lord Indra.

Zeus parents are also Kronos and Rhea like Poseidon while Indra's parents were Kashyapa and Aditi like Varuna . their parents can also be compared within the mythologies hence making the evidence of parallelism stronger

 The Holy Trinity

[Indian and Greek Trinity]

the presence of a kind of 3 holy trinities can be found in both of the mythologies. In Indian mythology despite all the other gods Brahma. Vishnu and Maheshwar are considered the 3 most important gods

same way in greek mythology you have Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades who respectively rule the sky, underworld, and the seas. They are considered as the 3 most important gods in the greek mythology

 Hermes and Narada

[Hermes]

next on our list are those who are so much alike that many believe them to be the same god

[Narada with his Vina]
Hermes has to be attributed to many departments to control. Hermes is known to travel very fast in time and can reach anywhere at any time. He often plays tricks on others either for entertainment or as part of some other big plan that will help humanity. Hermes has been said to discover astronomy and music among other skills. Also, there is a famous story according to which Hermes made a string instrument called lyre to quench Appolo's anger. Also, he is known to travel really fast and can show up almost anywhere

In a manner similar to Hermes Narada was also proficient in music and is also said to have been made the musical instrument called Vina. He was also a seer

 Apollo and Surya

[Apollo-Greek God]

Apollo was the god of sun, light, music, and prophesize, although the title of God of sun is also shared by Helios in Greek mythology, but some believe is Helios and Apollo are the same, while others believe them to be different, and since Helios was the titan, the title of God of Sun passed to Apollo after Titans defeat both Apollo and helios are often associated with a flying golden chariot, which is driven by steeds. And in Indian mythology the god of the Sun is Surya. Surya is also known by other names like Aditiya or Bhanu and In in a manner similar to Helios or Apollo, Surya is also

Surya [ Hindu Son God]

known to ride a flying chariot with seven horses. Since Surya is not associated with music or prophesies like Apollo.  it would be safer to compare Surya with Helios than Apollo, who is the Titan God of Sun

Athena and Saraswati

Athena is the goddess of wisdom, skills, war, the arts industry, and justice.

Saraswati [ Indian Godess]

Saraswati. On the other hand, is the Indian goddess of knowledge, wisdom, learning music, and arts. Athena is often seen with her companion Owl while Saraswati is seen with a swan or a peacock interesting point to note about both the deities as their mode of birth. Athena sprang out fully grown in full body armor when the Hephaestus split opened Lord Zeus' skull on the suggestion of Hermes to relieve his headache. It was this nature of birth, that a theme became the goddess of wisdom and intelligence.  Saraswati sprang out from the mouth of Lord Brahma dressed in white carrying a scare book and a Vina in her hands. So, none of them was born the regular way, but from the hands of two prime gods of their respective religions. However, what separates them both is that being or Goddess of War for Athena is sometimes shown carrying weapons in or Sheild. On the other acts around Saraswati has shown carrying a book, rosary, water pot, and a veena in her four hands.

[Athena the greek godesss]

Hades and Yamraj

Yamraj

In Greek mythology, Hades is the king of underworld, or the dead ones go.  The God of death and the dead. While on an Indian mythology  Yamraj is the ruler of Naraqa a place comparable to the underworld, and the God of Death. Both Hades and Yamraj are said to bring judgment to the departed souls, and according to their respective afterlife, good souls are sent to Elysium and Swarg in Greek and Indian mythology respectively. Why do the bad ones ever send Tartarus and Naraqa respectively?  Hades is the master of Cerberus the three-headed dog that guards the entrance of the underworld, while the gates of Yamraj abode are guarded by two insatiable dogs with four eyes and wide nostrils.  The next interesting thing is that Hades is also called Pluto, especially by the Romans, which is also the name of a planet. The planet Pluto is called Yama in Hindi

Hades

So, even miles apart both cultures named the planet after similar gods, it's a little strange,

Achilles and Bhishma

[Bhishma]

Both of them were heroes in the biggest movies of their respective mythologies. Achilles in Trojan War and Bhisma in  Mahabharata both of their mothers were river goddesses while the father will kings

goddess Thetis and King Peleus of Achilles  and river Ganga and King Shantanu of Bhishma

Bertha, both of them are quite similar to the case. Achilles' mother has six sons before Achilles and while in her attempt to make them immortal she burned them in fire and in the case of Achilles Peleus arrived in time and saved him by holding him from the heel thus Achilles lived and got invulnerability except for the heels. However, another version of the story says that Thetis dipped Achilles in the River Styx to make him immortal . Similarly, Ganga dipped all her children before Bhishma in water . Ganga had forced Shantanu to vow that he will never question her actions.

[Achellies]

When she was about to dip Bhishma Shantanu stopped her from doing so and Ganga left him as he broke his vow. Bhishma gained blessings from his father [because he gave up the claim to the throne so that his step-brother could take up the throne ] the blessing was that he can only die when he wished to die thus making him unvenriable like Achilles despite both of them being nearly invulnerable they died as heroes in the respective wars.

  Poseidon and Varuna

[Varuna]

The next comparison is between Poseidon and Varuna, both of them are prominent gods in their respective cultures like Poseidon is a major Olympian God and Varuna is a prominent deity of Indian deities, Poseidon is the god of rivers, Sea, drought or earthquakes and horses.

[Poseidon]

Varuna is the  God of water oceans and aquatic elements, thus their domains are nearly overlapping Poseidon is often shown riding a chariot driven by horses or Hippo while Varuna is seen with the chariot of Swan or crocodiles. Both of them had their dwelling inside seas, parents of  Varuna are kashayapa and Aditi, who can actually be compared to the parents of the Poseidon. Kronos and Rhea

Kashayapa is said to give birth to a majority of Indians with mythological lineages including most of the gods, demons and other races. Similarly, Kronos has also given birth to most of their Greek mythological lineages. Another interesting fact is that Poseidon's roman name is Neptune, referring to the planet of Neptune, which is called Varuna in Hindi.

Rhea and Aditi

[Rhea]

First of all, let's look at the names Rhea means flow, and Aditi means boundless freedom, although not the exact meaning, but both the words seem somewhat related. Rhea is the mother of Gods including prominent gods like Zeus and Poseidon and also the goddess of female fertility, motherhood, and generation. Aditi is also considered mother of many gods including Indra, these similarities between Greek and Indian mythological gods of human beings all over the world are basically the same.
